Lichtzeichen in Bewegung – Neue Lichtinstallation von Mischa Kuball am Radialsystem

Radialsystem transforms into a light signal inviting visitors to come explore, as Mischa Kuala’s site-specific light installation renders the venue permamently visible from afar, beginning in summer 2025. The glow of the kinetic lettering of ‘r a d i a l  system’ marks a new artistic and architectural landmark on the façade of the building. The work moves between ‘art in architecture’ and a sensory experience in public space.

Mischa Kuball’s installation is to be understood as a ‘light body with its own temporality’: through subtle movement, the frequency and brightness of the individual letters change, reacting to one another and thus creating a dynamic topography of light. It draws upon the eventful history of the building – a pumping station on the banks of the Spree erected toward the end of the 19th century. Radialsystem has been a cultural venue for almost twenty years, engaging transformation and continuity in dialogue with international and local artists, ensembles and audiences. In keeping with Mischa Kuball’s artistic practice, in which light serves as a medium for social discourse and aesthetic intervention, the installation also embodies a visual practice of communication – open, in motion, and in relatedness.
