‘Lives Shaping Works Making Life’ is a collection of 24 dialogues conducted by artist and scientist Xavier Le Roy in exchange with artists, cultural practitioners and curators on the subject of artistic practices. Under the title ‘Practices: Strategies and Tactics,’ they were organised in conjunction with the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen as public-facing conversations between November 2022 and November 2024.
Each encounter follows the same format – 14 questions that have been printed on the book cover, which serve as a flexible framework for discussion. Through careful editing by Giulia Casartelli, Daniel Cordova and Livia Andrea Piazza, these interchanges have been transformed into lively, multi-voiced texts. They invite further reflection and spark further dialogue beyond the original live encounters. At the event, Xavier Le Roy will once again engage in conversation with some of the practitioners featured in the book and provide insights into the publication.

Biographien
Xavier Le Roy promovierte in Molekularbiologie an der Universität Montpellier, Frankreich, und arbeitet seit 1991 als Künstler. Seit 2018 ist er Professor am Institut für Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft in Gießen. Er war Artist-in-Residence am Podewil in Berlin (1996-2003), Associate Artist am Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier (2007-2008), Artist-in-Residence am MIT Program in Art, Culture, and Technology (Cambridge, MA) (2010) und am Théâtre de la Cité Internationale, Paris (2012-2015).
Daniel Cordova hat einen MA in Angewandter Theaterwissenschaft an der Universität Gießen (2024) und einen BA in Darstellender Kunst an der Universität von São Paulo (2010). Seit 2024 ist er Dramaturg am Radialsystem in Berlin. Er arbeitete als Produktionsleiter in São Paulo mit Künstler*innen wie Carolina Mendonça, Cristian Duarte und Rodrigo Batista sowie in der Organisation von Gastspielen von Robert Wilson, She She Pop, The Wooster Group, Tino Sehgal und anderen.
Livia Andrea Piazza ist promovierte Kulturwissenschaftlerin und arbeitet als Wissenschaftlerin und Dozentin am Institut für Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft in Gießen und als Dozentin an der Bocconi Universität in Mailand. Sie engagierte sich in Plattformen für kollektive Forschung (Aleppo/Brüssel, Critical Practice Made in YU) und arbeitet als unabhängige Dramaturgin, Redakteurin und Autorin. Sie war Ko-Kuratorin von Diskurs- und Lernprogrammen beim Santarcangelo Festival (IT), Homo Novus Festival (LV), DAS Theatre (NL) und PACT Zollverein (DE).
