Voices Berlin Festival is an international platform for performing arts and music that supports the voices of artists who, for various reasons, have left their homeland and are searching for new ways to make themselves heard. The third edition of the festival will take place in different locations across Berlin in 2025, exploring the question of how artistic identities can transgress borders, recreate themselves, and continue to develop in new contexts.
This year’s programme is made up of a broad spectrum of premieres, concerts and performances. Alongside a range of artistic perspectives and stories, Voices Berlin also provides a communal stage for dialogue and collaboration – a space that gives contemporary art, artists and audiences a form of orientation, and a chance to find their way in a complex and constantly changing world. The festival will take place from the 24th October to the 16th of November this year, presenting a diverse programme of new music, contemporary dance, theatre, and interdisciplinary productions by artists from over 20 countries.
The festival opens with the premiere of "No Sound is Innocent XIII" in Radialsystem, a performance created by musical legend Blixa Bargeld and Swedish composer Dror Feiler. In addition, Berlin-based Zafraan Ensemble presents four premieres by composers whose music was developed in different cultural contexts. Artist duo ORTA entangles the audience in an immersive performance and innovative creation "The New Genius Experience of The Great Atomic Bombreflector". Pianist Dmitry Batalov presents an extensive concert programme with "Wanderer", a work in which he places multiple musical styles alongside each other, questioning the potential of the piano anew.
