In their new production, NICO AND THE NAVIGATORS present an evening of music theatre about a fundamental part of modern society that has become fragile: trust. In an increasingly complex world, trust becomes a paradoxical demand – not a moral virtue, but a silent survival technique.
The music theatre evening “Architecture of Trust” begins at a blind spot: the inconspicuous assumption of a natural trust that holds democratic, technical and social systems together. We rely on laws, institutions, and figures of expertise, although we hardly understand their inner mechanisms. Yet we have to trust them. From this fragility, a space for music theatre unfolds: a structure made of music, text, image, and dance – supported by a multifaceted, contemporary soundtrack, in which pop, classical, and new music overlap.
“Architecture of Trust” is not a piece about certainty, but rather about its erosion. It doesn’t look for simple answers, it looks for a stance: for a trust that remains aware of its own fragility, and for a mistrust that does not destroy but holds space for critical understanding.

NICO AND THE NAVIGATORS sind seit der Eröffnung 2006 kontinuierlich im Radialsystem präsent. 1998 am Bauhaus Dessau gegründet, hat sich die Kompanie mit ihrer bildstarken Handschrift zu einem der bedeutenden freien Musiktheater-Ensembles Europas entwickelt. Gastspiele führten sie an renommierte Theater, Opernhäuser und Festivals, darunter die Wiener Festwochen, die Berliner Philharmonie, die Bregenzer Festspiele, die Elbphilharmonie, die Opéra-Comique in Paris und zuletzt die Shanghai Concert Hall. Seit 2019 erforschen die Navigatoren auch wegweisende Bühnentechnologien mit Fokus auf Kameratracking, Augmented Reality und Künstliche Intelligenz. In Kooperation mit der HTW Berlin entstand z.B. ein KI-gestütztes Kameratracking-System; die konzipierte AR-Loopmachine wurde 2022 für den Aurea Award nominiert.
Für ihre Arbeit erhielt die Kompanie u.a. den George-Tabori-Preis (2011) und den Konrad-Wolf-Preis der Akademie der Künste (2016). Seit 2021 richtet sie ihre Produktionen verstärkt politisch aus. Die 2024 am Haus der Bundespressekonferenz uraufgeführte Farce „Ein Volksbürger“, die in Zusammenarbeit mit Maximilian Steinbeis und dem Verfassungsblog entstand, wurde 2025 für das Berliner Theatertreffen und den Friedrich-Luft-Preis nominiert. Die von EuroArts und ZDF/Arte produzierte Aufzeichnung ist weiterhin in der Arte-Mediathek in sechs Sprachen untertitelt abrufbar.
