Achraf Lansari – Body Time Space 2026
Performance / Tanz Video
During their Body Time Space residency at Radialsystem, Achraf Lansari and the collective corps sonores explore House dance as an archive of activism while challenging the absence of underground club cultures in academic and institutional dance spaces. Born from Black and queer communities, House dance is both a social dance and a political practice that carries stories of resilience, migration, resistance, and care. Yet, these practices are rarely recognized by theatres or dance institutions, which often privilege academic frameworks and formal aesthetics over lived cultural knowledge. Achraf aims to use the residency to explore this tension: how bodies trained in House dance carry activist histories, and how these histories can be brought into dialogue with institutional contexts without detaching from their roots.
Through improvisation, collective movement research, and dialogue, the artists experiment with club-based practices – cyphers, jacking, trance states – and explore how these practices can be translated into a studio environment while maintaining their political energy. What risks of appropriation or dilution arise when underground practices enter institutional stages? Can new strategies be created that honour the social and activist origins of House while engaging with academic and theatre spaces?
Achraf Lansari is a choreographer, performer, DJ, and sound artist working across performance, club culture, and collective spaces. His practice centres rhythm and Black dance cultures as embodied tools for connection, trance, and transformation, with a particular focus on how presence is built, disrupted, and shared. Rooted in House dance and informed by Gnawa traditions and experimental sound practices, Achraf approaches movement as a listening practice. His work moves between freestyle and composition, structure and rupture, treating choreography as a living system shaped by rhythm, attention, and social proximity.
