CTM Festival 2022 – Contact: Human Methods [ΣXHALE]

© Nikolaus Ostermann, Volkstheater Wien
In “[ΣXHALE]”, the audience is plunged into a garden-like habitat, a biome of dance, theatre, interactive music, body art and biotechnological installation: Human, “more-than-human”, and artificial lifeforms follow a ritualistic choreography and exert mutual influence on one another, revealing the necessity for respectful coexistence and interdependence. The performance takes place at the beginning of February at Radialsystem as part of the CTM Festival, which, in its 23rd edition in 2022, gauges the extent to which music can provide a space imbued with possibility for exchange, experience and emotional resonance.

The performance “[ΣXHALE]” is the most recent piece stemming from the series “Human Methods” by the Berlin-based artist group Fronte Vacuo. The series features reflections by Marco Donnarumma, Margherita Pevere and Andrea Familari on forms of violence that emerge from the interconnectedness of human society, natural ecosystems and algorithmic megastructures.
